Here are some pictures of Waite's leaf-gathering efforts in 2009. The pictures were taken the 27th of October.
From the top down:
-The pile of bags to the right will be staged around the garden for easier access in next year's garden. They will also be placed in areas to suppress emergence of weeds in the Spring. You can see some green leeks still in the ground.
-Here is a bulk containment area. It has chicken wire on the sides and bags of leaves at each end. Waite has 5 or 6 containment areas located throughout the garden.
-This is a sub-section of Waite's garden with bags of leaves around the perimeter. This is the area where he had beans last year.
-This is a general view of the northwest part of the garden. You can see that the oats (planted as a cover crop) are still green. Waite will cut them down and use the resulting straw for mulch on his garlic bed.
-Here is a picture showing the placement of bags of leaves and a couple of beds enclosed with cedar boards.
-Here is another picture of the bags piled as Waite delivers them to the field. These will be placed around the garden, not left in this large pile.
